Oh shes adorable! Congratulations!!!!

I absolutely adore rats, rodents are my special interest (rats being my favourite) but I don’t think I’d be able to own them again. They’re amazing pets but it’s so hard to loose them so soon. I wish it were easier to keep them for me, but when my boys died I couldn’t find it in me to continue owning them.

I am proud of you for making this decision as I know all too well how hard it is. I miss my rats, I miss having rats, but they repeatedly tore my heart out and I couldn't do it anymore. I understand the special interest thing 100%

My last rat just passed away and I will be taking a very long(maybe permanent) break from owning rats. Their lifespan and health issues wore me down, so stressful, sad and expensive. Loved them, but I can't do it again. No one should be judging you for not owning a certain animal, I think some rat owners(especially in facebook groups) are a little delusional about how much energy and time it really takes to properly care for them

I know this has nothing to do with the video, but you should do a questions and answers video,and here’s a questoin,in your pet room are you going to free roam a bunny if you do get a bunny.

I'm going through this stage ATM... I can't handle the short lifespan. The first years go way too quickly, then when they get old it's sad to see them not as zoomy and sleeping more 😢

I’m planning on getting a second hand cage, but would 79 x 52 x 139cm be ok? Im just wondering since I want to give them the best possible life I can give :)

I can completely understand. Anyone telling you that your health and safety are not important are odd to say the least. You obviously care very much for all of your pets. I'm having to take a break from having ferrets after 12 years. I developed a skin allergy to them from their waste, I would get terrible, itchy hives especially if I got scratched. My heart ferret passed last year and it's been so hard. I had several who were seniors at the same time and it took it's toll on my finances as well. I've held onto one of their cages and some bedding so that if I'm ready again I have a place for them. But for now I just can't.

I recognise myself so much in you. In my house we are down to 3 rats. Especially in the thing you said about not grieving them because you have to get new ones all the time

Having rats can be a huge challenge and people don't realize that - if you don't have the ability to care for them anymore or it's impacting your health then you shouldn't feel obligated to! I'm glad you're doing what's right for you and your rats. You have plenty of other animals to share and care for :)

Totally understand why you’re taking a Rat break, but I’m really bummed as I just got my first rat family last week and have been eating up your videos like crazy! Good luck!

This is completely un related but I am getting rats in a couple of days and I can’t figure out how to make the food and there is none that I can buy where I live, I have most of the rest of the ingredients for it, but just don’t know what to do for the base mix. Any tips or how I can make it? Please reply I really need help!

Number 3 and 4, for me too. Yesterday I had to let another one go. My heart can't take it anymore, I reached my heartbreak limit. And strangly, I have a hard time bonding with new rats, I'm not expecting new rats to be the same loveable babies are my old rats, but I miss the oldies. Maybe it's like you said, and I'm just shielding myself from more heartbreak too.

You're one of the first few people that inspired me to actually do proper research on rats, I had rats growing up amongst many other small animals, but they were never in the right setup because I didn't know any better. I stumbled across your channel, and it inspired me to keep rats again but in the right setup and the right diet. I've kept rats the last few years properly and even learned to make my own rat mix which my rats love, but I suffer some of the same issues you do so I understand how hard it is to make that decision. the rats I have left will be my last for a while but still being cared for, even I feel odd about not having them anymore one day.

You've made the right choice for you, no shame in that! I own guinea pigs and I'm a bit allergic to them, and I'm terrified that I'll develop a more severe allergy

i had a vet that when she gave me medication for my rats uri, she said "they may vomit or have diarrhea." and thats when i realized that the only exotic vet near me isnt even good.

it was so hard for me to stop owning rats too. i rehomed my last 2 boys to someone who had 8 so i know they’re going to have fun and live out the rest of their lives in a great mischief. my reasons were basically the same as all of yours. becoming allergic to an animal that you previously weren’t, is so rough 😢 i miss having my boys around but i’m glad not to suffer in my own house. i got rats because i wanted to enjoy them but towards the end it was just feeling like a chore😔

You've done a lot with rats in the past and that is why I subscribed. I think you need to take care of your health first. If you don't have health how can you take care of any of your pets? Including the rats. Anyway, I've gotten a lot of helpful info from you in the past so, thank you! Take care of yourself!

as a born animal lover who was cursed to be allergic to most environmental things including animals and has tried rodent pets, i totally understand your decision. when i owned guinea pigs as a teen i was so allergic to their hay that i literally couldnt go in their room for more than a few minutes without my throat closing up. it made owning them a dangerous chore and that's not good for you or the animals!

I feel like maybe you got pressured into making this video. I mean you already did a video explaining your allergies, and anyone who has been here a while knows about your chronic illness. I don't think you should have to sit here for over 20 minutes explaining yourself. Our lives are ever changing and that's okay. I mean I always wondered how you took care of so many animals in the first place. I only have one pet and on a bad illness day it takes everything I have to care from them. Don't doubt that you're making the right decision for you, at this time. ❤ Plus any person whose owned rats before, understands the heartbreak of their short lifespans and how your heart rats dig a place in your soul.

Thank you for this, it's clear how much you love them and want the best for them. This can't be easy but sounds like the right decision for you and your health, which comes first. I'm lara I've been convincing my parents to let me get a Rat..I was half rejected because their "weird" I personally love them and respect their nature I really hope I can get one 😊

I felt that short life span when with owning fish i had one die and that was tough and then i lost a second one and i decided that was enough tears and now im stuck with a Dog thats giving me a run for my money and my heart!

Don't care that you stop owning rats for now, you're very educational for keeping animals. I wanted to have some small exotic pets like mice or something similar to just observe but then UA-cam showed me your Channel and I saw rats and instantly fell in love with them. All your old videos helped me in the almost 2 years, had to neuter one of my old boys (I started with 3) and got 2 more rescued and they finally come along. Again just thanks to all your educational videos. I see your point with missing your old rats, my first 3 are omega shy, I can handle them, but they don't want to do anything with me. My new boys, they just want to climb on me and play with me and those will hit harder when they pass. I watch any video you upload, even if it's not rat related because I learn a ton for any other pet, even though I know a lot about cats and dogs already, still some new information I didn't know before.

I'm genuinely concerned you are going to end up in hospital with an allergy that severe and that sudden! Anaphylaxis is nothing to mess around with!

Hahahah, I love that even this fairly serious subject, everything is organised into an 'internet-friendly numbered list' (as Jenny Nicholson might say, lol). You are amazing and we all support you whatever you decide! Oh, how about switching to female rats? My girls really don't pee much at all. I dunno if the enzyme is different between boys and girls. Not trying to be a gatekeeper or whatever. Just a friendly idea.

I have mice, i always really liked them and making their house very cool and inspiring, but suddenly i did not like them as much.. i have found the perfect owner for my group of girls, someone who loves hamsterscaping for the mice, so they are lucky. I have two old lady s and my little mouse man and they stay till they die. I loved guiny pigs but they are happy and popcorning till they are six and after that they are very boring and old and still live till they are about ten.. i did not like that part very much because when they get old they are not so fresh as well, they get a big scrotum, they leak urine, and their nails are deformed and not easy to clip. My great live is my rabbits, they have a big pen in the living room, with fleece liners, litterbox, box with hay and grass and veggies and kan walk freely in and out of their pen and roam free, sit on the sofa next to you, dont smell, run and jump and it is so funny ❤

I can’t thank you enough for all the amazing rat info over the years ❤ you’re the reason my rats had a great life from the beginning, watching your videos before getting them meant I skipped a lot of rookie mistakes. I totally understand all your reasons, the short life span is so heartbreaking and I’m considering stopping soon. It’s such a tricky decision but sometimes the right one :)

I hate that people are being nasty to you about your decision. They aren't going to be sitting with you in the emergency room if you have an episode of anaphylactic shock, so they can stuff it! I don't get to watch all your videos, but I watch the ones I can, because you're so meticulous about researching all your animals and giving them proper care. My sister has POTS and EDS and I've got endometriosis and adenomyosis and the fatigue has made it so hard to care for my beans properly. I've struggled so much with whether to keep going with rats, especially after developing allergies (milder than yours!).

I can’t believe people are saying that you don’t care enough about them, you have made it pretty clear that you have lived them for so long now and I do think that even though I love seeing your boys, you have to do what’s best for them and you which means to not own them anymore. But it is also no one else’s decision but yours. Btw I love your channel and all of your animals so much, you are so awesome and inspiring xx

I had lost my heart rat on my birthday this year and it broke me, I would still be owning rats but I have just random breakdown and thinking about it just breaks me but he was the best boy ❤

Ugh people got SO pissed at me for saying that it's not ok to keep their last rat alone because they weren't planning on getting anymore. They said that it was way worse to 'throw out' an elderly rat, which is obviously not what anyone meant, and that isolating them for their final months alive was better than getting them a home with friends...some people just don't get it.

All of these points are so valid. It was the collection of ashes that kept getting added too for me. I’m down to my last senior boy Moo after almost 7 years. It’s been a pleasure. 🫡💙

This is my 3rd time keeping rats, I'm 60 years old. I can fully understand your emotions. My adorable Zoomie goes camping with me! He turned a year in march, already has some grey hairs. (black with white feet, white blaze belly) Slowing down, cuddles under my hand (no choices there its happening!) He is my constant companion. His cage buddy Flash is sweet, but he's not my Zoomie. My 2 priors were Mamma as a teen. Later George when my oldest daughter was old enough to be gentle. I have asthma so rats were always a first choice for me. They are an amazing companion. But the short lifespan sure takes a toll on your heart.

Extremely valid. I stopped for several years but just started keeping them again. My dad used to beg me to stop because I'd fall apart every time they passed which is quite often when you got different aged pairs haha. I've limited myself with 3 of the same age
